It's decided to work with TSMC and Broadcom. Credit: Shutterstock - Mehaniq OpenAI intends to design its own AI chips, which would give it an edge over its competitors, according to Reuters. The chips will be developed in collaboration with TSMC and Broadcom, meaning OpenAI will not invest in its own factories. If all goes according to plan, the first chips could be ready for use as early as 2026. While waiting for its own chips to arrive, OpenAI has decided to order processors from AMD to be used to train its AI models. (Nvidia chips are currently used for that purpose, but high demand has meant prices for these chips have risen sharply.)
